Hanna Montana Bullied as a Kid

In her new book, Miles To Go, Miley Cyrus (Hanna Montana) talks about being bullied as a kid living in Tennessee and describes her pre-teen years as "friendless, lonely and miserable".

I Made a Difference

Anti-Bullying Hero

U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist, Michael Phelps, was bullied throughout his childhood

"The champion who in his youth was terribly mocked for his big ears."

"His mother, Debbie, suggests the water was one refuge from the taunting he received as a boy. She remembers how he emerged from a school swim meeting in tears. Two members of the opposing team had baited him relentlessly about the size of his ears.

His coach, Bob Bowman, says, "You might not think it, but everything that comes up Michael uses for motivation – and look where it's taken him."

2nd Annual

Autism Puzzle Walk

April 25, 2009

Communities across the entire state rallied around families living with autism on Saturday, April 25th. Volunteers and walkers spent a rainy, chilly Saturday capturing the love and passion of our community, raising funds and awareness.

Special thanks to Devin Howell, Miss Douglas County, who was was there with the BAPA, helping  parents of children with autism learn about  bullying, how it impacts their children, and what they can do to protect them.

It’s disturbing that bullying is such a prevalent reality for so many children in today’s society, but for children with autism, bullying can be especially difficult.

Children with autism can be more at risk of being bullied. One study of 400 children with Asperger syndrome found that the children were at least four times more likely to be bullied than their peers. (Attwood, 2005)
